My 18 year old niece [my brother's daughter] is leaving her mother's home due to some issues.

Now her mom is telling her that she can't take:
-clothes
-personal things [toothbrush, deodorant, digital camera, etc]
-she basically leaves with the clothes on her back.

Is this allowed? What are the legal laws that would help this situation.

She resides in Ontario, Canada.

Moving to my brother's [her fathers] is not a possibility, her dad has been absent throughout her life. He's also a drunk and well neither is he in a stable relationship [but that's another story].

If you could please provide me with some assistance so I can tell my niece,

Thanks AMHD,

MRS.S

She can take anything she purchased with money she earned or were given to her as gifts (birthday gifts etc.). Anything else is property of the parents.
