Hi,
I wonder if it will be expensive to add a new AC system to an existing 2 level house with 1 AC system to make it zoned. Also, will having one AC system in a 2 level house create issue like constant uneven temp. and shortened life span of the system due to heavy usage?
Thanks.

I would recommend going with 2 seprate units as aposed to 1 and trying to zone. Zoning is not cheep either if it is done right and you will have lots less head eaks if you just had to seprate units. Is there room for anouther in your attic?

Thanks Josh. It is an existing house that I am thinking about buying. All is good. The AC is the only thing I am pondering that a large house like 2440 sft with 2 levels with one AC. I am not sure if the attic has the space to add an evaporator. I assume there will be some minor modification needed on the duct work to make it zoned/separate. And certainly I am concerned about the cost of such addition.. will it break the bank? Should one AC in a big house be a deal breaker? Tahnks. Francis

Typically in that size house with 1 ac and no zoning the temp diff from first floor to second floor is going to be around 8 degrees. Inless it was really installed with many returns, whitch I figure it was not. How many rooms are there on the top floor?
