Have an '02 dodge neon, the check engine light came on yesterday. I checked all fluids under the hood and all are fine. While I was driving it today it would not shift up or down. I pulled up to a red light and it would not go in drive, however it went in reverse fine. I put in park and back into drive and it finally went in drive, but as I kept driving it kept sticking and not shifting, sounded like it was revving just not shifting. Can anyone help?

Get a scan done to determine which codes are stored in the computer. Sounds like you need the input & output shift sensors; they're a common problem on Chrysler transmissions. But have a scan done to be positive.

I keep having the same problem with my 2002 Dodge Neon! It has been in the shop give or take 6 times in the last month for the same reason. Have your mechanic replace both the input and output speed sensors and it should fix the problem. They still can't find out why mine keeps popping these codes and want to replace the computer but I think that's a little to expensive for me. Hope this helps

1) This thread is from April 2009.
2) That's exactly what I told him back then.

I've had the same problem with my dodge neon as well an they had to replace the control moduel in it but just yesterday when I was @ work getting ready to leave to grab a bite to eat it started acting like it won't shift. It goes trough park,d
Reverse, nutural, etc. Jus fine but when I'm driving it acts like it won't shift an when I get past 40 it makes a kind of winding noise an I've checked all fluids a I know I need to put oil in. Do think it could fix te problem? My check egine light isn't on so I don't know what else to do.

First, please don't piggyback your question on someone else's thread. This question is over a year old and it makes it harder for us to find your question and help you.
Second, have a computer scan done anyway. Sometimes the codes will store but not turn on the light.
When you say it won't shift, how high are the RPMs on the vehicle? The reason I ask is that I once had a gentleman insisting that his vehicle wasn't shifting and making the same winding noise - the tranny was fine but his wheel bearing was bad, which is where the noise was coming from.

1. This thread is from 2009.
2. Are you answering the question or just stating that you had a problem with your vehicle shifting? I don't see how a "ring" missing from the end of the shift cable would make an automatic transmission not shift. Did you read the entire question?
