I have baseboard heaters along two walls in the main room of my apartment. There is an old style thermostat that has ascending numbers on it but really just clicks on or off. I can take the knob off but the cover plate is glued to the wall, and the only writing on the unit says "Comfort." Anyway, even though the switch clicks and is turned as far to the left as possible, the heaters keep turning on and off. Is this a short in the wiring or possibly some other problem? I can get my landlord to fix it but that usually takes a while so I'd like to know if there's something I can tell her that might expedite the process or if I should just shut off the breaker and wait. Sounds like a fualty thermostat. It should be the only thing that turns the baseboard elements on and off. If you replace the thermostat, make sure power is shut off, as this is a line voltage stat. Also make sure to get a new line voltage stat that is compatible with your system.
