I bought a house about a year ago that other than a strong smell seemed perfect. I asked the person selling the house what the odor was and they assured me that it was only from a mixture of chemicals used to paint, clean, and strip. This seemed reasonable because the floors, carpets, and counters were all new. The walls were freshly painted and the septic system was replaced. A year has past now and the house still stinks. I have fans constantly blowing with the windows open and if I turn off the fans for five minutes I am overwhelmed by the odor. However I can't seem to find the source. I have stuck my nose to every surface of carpet and wall possible. I have repainted the walls, and as I said the carpets are new and when I smell the floors very closely I don't detect anything so I don't think the problem is the sub floors. Any ideas? I'm desperate for help!

Did the people before you have pets? Maybe its urine soaked into the subfloor.
Could you possibly have something dead in the walls?

Purchase a Ozone Light Bulb for each room. These lamps are used in emergency rooms. They are fluorescent lamps and have a titanium di-oxide coating which kills molds, allergems, smells, smoke and other noxious problems. They do work. If you can not locate these lamps call 800-362-8155 and we can help you with your purchase.
