My puppy has just finished a fourth 10 day dose of panacur for ghiardia. He seems to have gotten worse in the last two days. Does anyone know of an alternative to panacur for a stubborn case? I'm going broke.

No, I don't know an alternative and if you look for one it is only going to get rid of more of your money. You just have to give the medication more time. That is a tenacious little parasite to get rid of quickly.

The trick to getting rid of giardia is not just in the medicine alone. You have to do the medicine and at the same time you have to wash any and all bedding everyday. You need to completely clean out the food and water dishes everyday. Bleach them and rinse thoroughly. Bleach the yard where the dog goes potty thoroughly. Its even a better idea to have two separate areas for your dog to go potty. While he's using one, bleach the other and rinse and let dry completely and switch back and forth. Do all of this faithfully along with the meds and you will beat giardia. It sounds like a lot and actually it is work but giardia is hard to get rid of if you don't do all these things together. I know first hand. My dog had it and this is what I did to beat it. Good Luck.

Exactly right.
You don't just need to treat the dog, you need to treat everywhere the dog has been. Especially toilet areas!

Also, giardia can go from your dog to you. Make sure you wash your hands with hot soapy water every time you come in contact with your dog during infestation. You can catch it. Trust me, you do not want to go there. Sanitize!
