I used a tax software and submitted my original tax return for 2008 and I found that they have submitted 1040A for me instead of 1040nr-ez which I have to since I'm a non resident alian on F1 visa. I amended it with 1040X form and attaching a 1040nr-ez form and wrote a check to refund the overpayment made to me as a refund by the treasury.

I wish to know will the IRS accept it and how can I know if it was accepted?
How long does it take.

I filled it to the best of my understanding. But if there are any mistakes can I file another amendment form even after the coming deadline with out a penalty.

Please be kind enough to answer my questions.. I am very worried as this is my first time dealing with tax documents

You were correct to amend. Penalties are calculated based on the amount of tax due. As long as you do not owe any additional tax, there should be no penalties.

Thanks tax expert for answering my question. Please be kind enough to go through this

My only source of income is my wage which is 6675 and since I'm a non resident alian the interest on my checking account is not taxable I heard. Which was $45. I took an exception of $3500 since my filing status is single there for my taxable income was 3175. So my tax was 318 as my fedral tax with held was 722 They owed me 404. I received a refund of 1460 for my earlier form so I sent a check of 1056 along with the amended forms. I have paid tution from my salary but since Im not eligible for any deducations and I had no place to report it in the form I did not use that. Also I did not made a deduction for my state income tax as a representative of IRS said I could if I want to.

Please be kind enough to go through these figures and let me know if I have done any mistakes on my new 1040NR-EZ.

What is your citizenship? You did not take any treaty deduction.
Also on nonresident tax return, you can take itemized deduction that includes state income tax.

No my country has no treaties and I did not take the itemized deduction because it complecated. Just because I did not take it is it a error and the IRS representative said that I could stay with out taking it.

When I submitted the cheque I did not submit the 1040 - v voucher as there was no mentioning of it in the instruction form. Does this mean I made an error. And please go through the above post and let me know if I owe any money. This is my first time doing tax and I am so worried about all these

If you paid the amount due, NOT submitting the Form 1040-V is not a problem.
