Hi!
The pilot light on my very old model Heil gas central warm-air furnace keeps blowing out when it gets very windy. Are there any tips or tricks to keeping the pilot light from blowing out?
Thanks!

It could be a chimney down draft. Make sure the chimney has a cap on it. Make sure the pilot orifice is completely clean and the pilot lite has a good hard flame. A weak pilot is easier to extinguish. They make stand alone pilot relight controls that are not too much money. It senses when the flame is out a sparks till the pilot relights.

My chimney doesn't have a cap on it, so that probably is the problem.
What does a good, hard flame look like?
Thanks!

Actually that sight comes from years of experience but the flame comes strait out and does not float around the burner. This is for a horozontal flame pilot but vertical is about the same except turned up.
