I was in a motorcycle accident 2 years ago,out of work, with no income, lost cars, home,a lot more. I am finally back to work and paying my child support for 2 kids, currently about $1900 in arrears,my settlement from accident has been approved, now Domestic relations want to take for arrears-I am fine with that-But they also want to take another$31,000.00 for future child support payments till both kids are 18-This is ridiculous-$ months ago I asked if I could pay for 1 year in advance and they told me no,I can't do that ,now they want it all-How fair is this and is it legal? Domestic relations are going to take 1/2 of MY proceeds, put them in escrow that won't even accrue no interest-sounds like someone will be making the interest on that money for the next 4 years-Please Help

If they do take the payments in advance - and I've seen it happen when payments have been sporadic and there is a settlement involved - the interest should be calculated on a regular basis and posted against the account. Interest would be received on the money, reported, credited against what you owe.
