Can I run 110v fluorescent lights on a 220v supply or wiil they or the ballast pop?
I bought some cheap secondhand lights to put in my garage but they're 110v (doh)

No, I would change the 240 volt circuit to a 120 volt circuit. You will destroy if connecting to 220/240.

You should check, some newer fluorescents here in the US are multi-volt, meaning they will work on anything from 120-277v.
Also, I assume you are in the UK. If they are made for US 60Hz systems they may not work properly.

Yes I am in the UK, although domestically here its 240v, on construction sites etc its against the law to use 240v and we have to use 110v for health and safety reasons which requires transformers. This means electric tools/lights etc are readily available here in either 110v or 240v.
The lights I've got are industrial units which look robust enough to put in the garage so unless there's a cheaper alternative I think I'll just buy some cheap new lights and use their innards to convert these to 240v.
