I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 104,000. Recently, following a tire rotation I noticed a recurring noise in the passenger side front tire area. It sort of sounds like a brake drum rubbing, but applying the brakes have no effect. It is speed sensitive and soulds kind of like shh... shhhh.shhhhh... shhhh (a mild grinding noise) It does not pull to the right and the steering wheel does not vibrate. Any suggestions? Someone said a"pressure plate' and someone else said a "u-joint"... possible?

If it was the U joint you'd notice a clunk sound when you started up from a stopped position. I have a Jeep and mine had the front U joints replaced and before they were replaced it made the wonderful clunk sound.

From what you describe it is a brake problem. Suggest you have both front brakes looked at to be sure.

Sounds like a lateral runout problem (LRO). Have your brakes checked.
