About a month ago the incoming cold water began to lose pressure. Yesterdaythe cold water quit completely. This morning we now have to hot water either. The outside hoses are fine, just no water into the house. In case it matters, this is a mobile home only six years old. Do you have any ideas/solutions for this. Thanks!

Whe're on acreage, and there's quite a bit of open space under the home Our well is a gravity flow system (we even turn the pump on and off manually) that has always worked well. We get about 10gpm of extremely hard water, have 2 bathrooms. Yes, the outside faucets are still working fine, except for one that is attached to the house, and, I assume, in the same plumbing ""loop." The cold went over a period of months, the hot simply vanished this morning. We clean out the screens all the time. The plumbing in the floor is compression fit plastic (not pvc or abs).

This is strange, lose cold water, but hot was fine, now hot water is gone. Usually you have to have cold water coming in to house to have hot water. This sounds like it may be a freezing problem. What is the temp in your area. This one has me curious.

Thanks for answering! Nope, not freezing problem... we're in a relatively mild area on the Central CA coast. Monster freezes that blow out everybody's pipes only happen every decade or sol... and it's been a very mild winter this year. Right now we're in the 70s in day and low 50's at night. We do have a lot of calcium and lime, but why this found effect one is truly mystifying.

Do you know if there's away to flush the entire plumbing supply lines?

Under the hot water heater there should be a couple tees and that's where you may have some plugged lines. There should be some valves on top of h2o heater and you could do some checking there.

I would also flush the water heater.
You can also flush lines at each fixture if you have flexible supply lines.

The shower valves may require some cleaning by removing the cartridge and slowly turning on the water.

If you flush the heater you should turn it off first . Electric or gas.

No water to house mystery hopefully solved. The helpful suggestions were investigated, but not the problems... so, had the plumber out. What we have is an enormous amount of sediment in the holding tank, preventing adequate pressure to charge the plumbing in the house. We'll know for sure tomorrow when the actual draining occurs.

Progress report... the tank is drained and sanitized... next steps are to level the tank, and flush the supply line, which is supposed to restore enough pressure to charge the house system. If not, we'll have to find a way to backflush each individual line in the house. Incidentally, it seems to be a good time to consider a filtration system... we've only put this off for about 30 years now. Meanwhile, the "garden" bathtub we never use 'cause it's sooo big, is filled (via hose) with get-by water, and we're getting rather fond of the look... maybe we'll keep it, move in the goldfish, and add a few water lillies. Uh oh. Look how you start to think after a few days of dirty hair and sponge baths. Will keep you posted!
