I want to adopt a baby but do not have that much money what can I do

If you don't have the money to adopt, what makes you sure you have the money to raise a child?

I have to agree with Steve... Children are expensive. If you don't have the money to adopt, you surely don't have the money to raise a child.

I have to disagree here, just a little bit.

In general, I used to believe the same thing--if you can't afford to GET a child, then you can't afford to HAVE a child.

However--now that I'm facing $25k to have a kid (which, by the way, is the cost of some adoptions), I have to say that's crazy. If you had to pay $25k UP FRONT, the second you got pregnant, and then wouldn't get it all back if you had complications and miscarried---would you think that was fair?

Yet those who can't get knocked up as easily as a teenager on prom night HAVE to do this.

Seriously---Imagine if you had to put a down payment on your kid, non-refundable, that was more than most people have paid for a down payment on a HOUSE. Think about that for just a second.

Would you have ANY kids, at all, if that was the requirement because you are "flawed" in that you can't conceive naturally? Gee, let's take the most emotional thing that can EVER happen to a person, and make it so that those people who are ALREADY hurting over it have to hurt MORE because they don't have money, yet any little chica on the street can get knocked up and get government money to raise her kid--because she can do it NATURALLY.

So basically, since adoption is "unnatural", there's a "punishment fee" to adopt.

Yes, I know I'm taking this to an extreme---but if you look at it from THAT point of view---the money to adopt shouldn't be the issue. I bet there are maybe 10 members on this board that have $25k in the bank to toss at a maybe situation, and I'm SURE that more than that have kids.

To the OP: Look into foster care. No, you probably won't get a baby, but if ALL you want is a baby, then you should be re-examining why you want to adopt in the first place.
