Hi,
My Employer is based out of NJ and I worked in Georgia in 2008 the entire year while I am not a resident of GA.
The Employer withheld the taxes for NJ and not for Georgia in my W2.
Am I required to File for Georgia State Tax too as I am not a resident of Georgia nor is my employer who is based out of NJ ?
Thanks

Where did you live in 2008?
If you are present in a state, then any income earned during this period, must be reported to the state.
If you live and work is a state but your employer is from another state, then your income is only subject to the state where you live and work. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Working or Living in Two or More states (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/06/working-in-two-or-more-states.html)

Thank you.
Resident of VA.
Does it mean I should file 3 state return ?
For NJ as my taxes were withheld there and for VA as I am resident and for GA as I worked in 2008 ?

When you lived in GA, then you are resident of GA for 2008? You must file GA tax return.
You will file NJ tax return to get refund of taxes. Attach GA tax return.
I can not tell if you need to file VA tax return or not. Check VA residency requirements.
If you must file VA tax return, then claim credit for taxes paid to GA.

If he claims Virginia as his resident state, he must file a VA tax return.
