Since it does not factor nicely, use the quadratic formula.
k=-b\pm\frac{\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}}{2a}
Both solutions are real. Just plug and chug
I assume you know a=1, b=-8, c=8

Can anybody please tell me how to solve the following equation?
k^2 - 8K + 8 = 0
The discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) is positive so both roots are real
