We have lived in our house for 3 years now,we currently do not have a lease and haven't had a lease for 2 of the 3 years we've lived here.about 4 months ago we received papers hand delivered about foreclosure on the house we rent.we contacted the landlord about it,he said he just couldn't do it anymore.well,in the meantime,we have continued to pay rent to him.I am confused because I've been told several different things, someone else I know personally tells me not to pay rent anymore because he's not paying anyway,he's pocketing money.but on here everyone is saying to continue paying it to him, that its none of our business what he does with the money.well,is it our business and should we be paying it to him?or should we be saving up to move?I just done feel right not paying rent for one and I just don't see my landlord stealing money from me,he's not that way.but everyone is saying you just don't know people sometimes.

You could opt to put the rent money into an escrow account. If you do give the money to the landlord, make sure he's giving you a receipt for every single penny he receives. That way if the bank tries to argue that you haven't been paying rent, you have proof.

In the meantime, you may want to start looking for a new place. If the home you're living in isn't considered "rental property," the new owners may be looking to move in rather than have a tenant.
