Hallo there and thanks for looking. I work off Microsoft Outlook. My Send/Receive facility is not working. Whenever I try and do this, I get told that it's working at 50% and then it goes straight to Send/Receive Error information. The details are this: "'Receieving' reported error (0x80042108):Outlook is unable connect to your incoming (POP3)email server." What the hell does this mean and how do I sort it? It also states that it can't connect to my outgoing SMTP server. If you can help, you'll be my Email Hero for the year. Thanks again.

Hi Gnasher, loved your work in the Beano!

It suggests that you either have no internet connection present on the machine, your ISP servers are not responding, or your logon details for those servers (pop3 and smtp) are not correct. Are you using the machine from the same location as normal and have you changed anything recently, like installing a firewall etc?

StuMegu,
Yeah - those pesky Softies! I've tried calling the IP people and they seem to think everything's OK, but suggested I might want to turn my Norton Security off - did that to no avail. The only thing I can think of is that Mrs. Gnasher was fiddling about with a wifi router in the house... Would that cause this malarkey? And if so - what should I do? Gnash! Gnash! And thanks.

It all depends on what she was doing, of course, but if you have internet access you should be OK.

Try pinging the servers from a command prompt (start -> run -> "cmd" & click "ok"
Type "ping smtp.[ispservername].co.uk" and press return (put your server details in), if you get a reply the connection is there, and I would look at your logon details.

Can you use the ISP's webmail function, most of them have it, this will help see if your pop3 account is available.
