Im not sure the type of law promissory notes are covered by... is it contract law? I am in Florida. I have a promissory note for the $30,000 I loaned to a friend in Tn. If we live in two different states, where do I file? My friend is a public figure (entertainer). His work schedule is published as public knowledge on fan page and his official website... he is a singer and tours worldwide. Can I garnish wages? I know when and where he is booked.

You're going to have to file a lawsuit to enforce the promissory note. A general litigator can handle it. If you want you can look for someone who specializes in commercial litigation.

Once you file a lawsuit, go to court and win a judgment, if he doesn't pay then you can garnish wages. But first you have to win a judgment.

Before you can collect anything you have to get a judgement against him. Since this is probably past the boundaries for small claims court I would contact a lawyer well versed in civil law.

If this is a well known entertainment I would start with your lawyer sending him a letter giving him one more chance to pay rather than go through the negative publicity of a suit.

If you have to sue when you get a judgement, you can't garnish alary because he probably doesn't get any. But what you may be able to do is attach his share of the take from a future appearance.
