I installed a Hampton Bay touch dimmer (200 Watt rating) to control 5 20W halogen lamps in my apartment. It worked well for 2 months, then it started cycling through levels intermittently. It would even turn itself on. I replaced both the remote touch pad and controller, as well as swapping the touch pads with the controllers. The behavior of all the combinations was the same. I took one controller-touchpad set to another location away from the apartment building and it does not act erratically.

I am suspicious that this is a new environmental issue in the apartment building. I was away for a few weeks, and during that time the public hallway lights in the building were upgraded to illuminate only when people are moving about in the hall. The problem was evident when I returned. Is it possible that some RF or other interference could be causing the touch dimmer to behave erratically? Any suggestions as to what I can do about it?

Try changing the frequency on the remote and receiver, I think you are getting a bleed signal from the hallway sensor transmiters. The remote and receiver both should have 9-10 dip switches. Move some of the switches from where they are now and make both units match, try that.

That sounds about right but this unit's "remote" touch pad is hard wired to the control unit with a 1-conductor wire; there is no RF link between them. Frankly, I think I'm screwed.
