I bought a 2005 Honda Accord from a friend for $7,000.00. I gave him the cash and he was going to bring me the title the next day. The next day he told me that he is looking for it and he would have it the next day again. I asked him about it and he said he is trying to find it but he thinks he may have a title loan on it. I asked him for the money back and he said he spent it on bills. It has almost been a month and he keeps coming up with new stories about the title and money. I have now found out that he has a $13,0000 dollar lien on it. He is also my manager at work so I have to see him everyday. What should I do? I am not rich and it hurts to lose that much money. He did sign a promissory note that said he must pay me back by the end of the week.

Unfortunately, you learned a lesson the very expensive way. You never give anyone money - especially in cash! - without getting something immediately in return.

Odds are that you're not going to get your money back at the end of the week. The only way to get the money back is by suing him in court, so I'd start looking for a job right now.

At the end of the week, if he will not pay you back, you sue him in court and see if you can garnish his wages.

And of course never buy a car unless the title is there in hand.
