Hello everyone,
I am a F1 graduate student in North Carolina from China. I came here on 2007 and stay in the same school until now. I am not married.
I had an on campus job in 2008 from January and August.
Now I received a 1042-S and W2. The gross income in 1042-S is less than 2500$ and the amount in W2 is less than 300$.
I read from the 'foreign student issues' that 'All F and J Visa holders must file a Form 1040NR or a Form 1040NR-EZ when their U.S. source income is above $3500. '
I asked the IRS people with e-mail for my situation but they were asking me to read the instructions myself.
I am getting confused for what should I do next:
1. Do I have to file 1042NR-EZ or 1040NR ?
2. Do I have to file D400 for North Carolina State Tax ?
3. I think I have to file 8843 since it is mandatory, is that the case?
Any idea is well appreciated,
Thanks,
