In Massachusetts, when a tenant moves out and the damages go over the amount of the security deposit, can you also keep the interest on that account towards repairs or do you have to give them the interest back on the security deposit and last months rent? It is a matter of cents.

In Massachusetts, if a tenant is moving out and refuses to give me a new forwarding address so I can send him a list of repairs that I used his security deposit for, what am I suppose to do?

You can get forwarding information from USPS by sending itemization to your/his former address with your return address in upper LH corner with... ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED in BIG letters under your return address... it will cost you some money to get their forwarding address and is well worth it... be sure to get the itemization out within allotted time... you can send USPS delivery confirmation and track delivery online.

If your itemization envelope is returned to you as undeliverable - keep it UNOPENED in a file and keep trying to get their forwarding address.

Do you know about the interest on the security deposit. If we go over the amount they gave us can we use the interest also?
