Hello!

I just bought 3 new Hampton Bay fans at HD. I installed two of them without any problems. The last one, though, is giving me fits.

It is the only one of the three that is to installed on an angled vaulted ceiling. The fan did say it supported angled ceiling installations. So here is my problem...

The electrical box installed in my ceiling has screw holes for the mounting bracket going east/west. However, when I installed the bracket & set the ball rod into it, I couldn't get the rod to hang straight down. This is because there is a little notch in the mounting bracket that fits into a groove on the ball rod.

Unfortunately, this notch & groove only pivot north/south when I need the ball to pivot east/west (since that is the direction of my ceiling).

So there is my dilemma. Hopefully that explanation makes sense.

Am I OK to just allow the ball rod to sit in the bracket, yet not have that notch sitting in the groove? Or is there another solution?

The dude at HD who I tried to get help from sold me an angled ceiling mount kit for a Hunter fan. However, it won't work with the eletrical pre-wire box installed in my ceiling already. I'm trying to figure this out by myself without paying $100 bucks for some installer to come out.

You definitely need the notch in the groove, as you put it, otherwise the fan might spin itself loose.

I would first try rotating the ceiling box to see if I can get it to line up. If that doesn't work you will need a vaulted ceiling kit, perhaps a different model than the Hunter.

Unfortunately, the pre-installed eletrical box is the kind that is goes up the side of the rafter (kinda like a hollow "L" shape). I can only rotate it 180 degrees which doesn't solve my dilemma & would only make matters worse when shifting around all the blown-in ceiling insulation.

The Hunter kit I got calls for me to drill this massive 1/2" screw through the center of the electical box. However, the hole in my box only accomodates a small 1/8" screw.

Can you make any recommendations on slope kits that will work with that style electrical box?

Any kind that uses a ball-and-socket type mount, similar to the original kit that's not working. Check with any and all places that sell fans locally.
