Hi,

My wife, who has an F1 visa, has worked in an institution during the semester for credit. She has been paid and she received a 1099 MISC but no W2.

Since we are residents for tax purposes I'm using turbotax. When I try to insert the info in the 1099 MISC I'm also asked for the W2, which she didn't receive. If I don't insert the W2 info she results as self employed, which she is not and I'm afraid that this can create problems.

The form SS-8 is mentioned but I have no idea what it is.

Thanks to anyone that will let me know what I can do about this.

Matteo

1099-misc income:
You will report your income and expenses on schedule C or C-EZ (Form 1040). Then you put net income (or loss) on line 12 of Form 1040.

If you are a resident, this income is subject to SE tax at 15.3% (this is shown on line 57 of Form 1040). If you are nonresident, then this income is not subject to SE tax. Half of SE tax is deductible on line 27 of Form 1040.
