What type of pen drive?

Some companies, for example, SanDisk U3 Cruzer, put software on the drives that can be used to remove the write protection.

SanDisk | Products | Support | Frequently Asked Questionsabout U3 (http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1450#Q13)

You can also put it back on:

SanDisk | Products | Driver Downloads (http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx)

Check to see if your manufacturer has a web site and, if so, if a method to remove the protection is available.

You need to check your pen drive that will have a sliding switch on the pen drive, which allows to set the device to be read/wirte capability. By changing Sliding switch can make your usb driver protect or unprotected.

Download one of the following registry tweaks to enable or disable writing to USB drives.

Enable USB Write

Disable USB Write

Once you use the registry hack, you will have to reboot for the changes to take effect. One should also note that if you are using this trick, you should make sure that the users are not administrators on the computer, because they could easily change this setting back.

This works on Windows Vista as well.
