Dear Sir,

I am on F1 visas.

I filed 1040A (turbo tax) instead of 1040NREZ.

I understand that I need to file 1040X and amend my tax.

I forgot to add my one of the two W2 form which was for OPT.

What precautions do I need to take while filing 1040X as

the basic form I filed is incorrect and also income information is incorrect.

I already have received my returns.

I will really appreciate your help.

Thanks

You must file Form 1040X alongwith properly done nonresident tax return and Form 8843. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Filing Requirements for Non-Residents (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-tax-filing-requirements-for-non.html)

thank you for your quick reply.

What details should I be covering on 1040x?

First complete nonresident tax return. Then compare it with the return you filed. You will be able to complete 1040X.

I filled up 1040NR-EZ.

My total taxes withheld including federal, state, social security and mediclaim taxes were 3420.

But the tax calculator shows me the refund of only 1074!!

My total income

As per instruction of 1040 NR EZ my itemized deductions were 3420 (which is total taxes with held as per instruction) and exemption deduction were 3500 (as per table calculator)

Am I making any mistake?

Because usually students (on F1) get back almost all the tax money.

I filed 1040A by mistake and it calculated 100% tax refund for me.

Please help.
