Hi,

I am a foreign student in the USA on an F1 Visa. I have received my W2 and 1042-S documents to file taxes. Previously I have just filed a 8843 form and a 1040NR form. But this year I also received a 1099-MISC document, with "Other Income" reported in Box 3 and nothing in the other boxes.

My questions:

a) Should I file a 1040NR or should I file a 1040NR-EZ?

b) Where do I report the "Other income" on the form I file, or do I add it to the income reported on the W2 before I report it on the form?

c) Are there any other forms I should also be submitting?

Thank you!

File Form 1040NR with a Schedule C, which will allow you to claim some deductions associated with earning that income, such as cell phone use and possibly business use of your car.

You do NOT submit Schedule SE because you are NOT liable for self-employment tax.
