I'm having trouble applying the formula to a specific situation. Height of octagon is 22 cm. sides are five cm. lateral suface area is 880cm easy. The area is 1121. I can't figure this out

An example of an octagon is a stop sign. If you draw vertical lines between the top and bottom segments, and horizontal lines between the two vertical segments, you'll end up with four rectangles at the top, bottom, left and right. You'll have one square in the middle and four equilateral right triangles at the upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right. All you have to do is figure out the area for each of these geometric figures (in terms of the length of a side) and add them together.
