I'm sponsored on H1B working fulltime. I have been approached by a foreign company to do part-time consulting (~10 hours a month). My current employment contract does permit to do outside consulting provided that it doesn't exceed 6 hours a week. I was wondering if there are any problems that I would encounter with the consulting since I'm on H1B. Does it matter if I do the work while I'm in the US or if I travel outside and do the work?

Thanks in advance.

If you are doing compensable work in the US, you need work authorization. File for a part-time concurrent H-1B.
