I am applying for a job out of state that I found on a search engine. The ad provides an email for where to send all inquiries/resumes. However, after doing some research, I found the direct supervisor for the position and her direct email address at the company. Is it ethical/appropriate to contact the potential employer on their personal work email? Will it hurt my chances at getting an interview?

This is just my opinion but I feel you should go through the proper channels.

I'm sure its tempting to go direct and one could say what a savvy person. On the other hand it could be viewed as "how dare this applicant invade My workplace".

If you tried the excuse and say I wasn't aware it was an actual workplace, then you may be viewed as can't follow the rules.

I would not go direct.
