Hello everyone. I was pulled over and received a ticket for speeding. I had my cruise set at 70 and the officer told me that he knows that I was doing at least 79 when I came up on him. He told me that he needed to get behind me to be sure and said the radar said 72 but he knows that I was doing 79. Then when he gave me the ticket I told him my cruise was set and I showed him where my needle was. He came back with one reason after another why he knows that I was speeding. He showed me a number to call on the bottom of the ticket if I still had anymore questions. I called it and heard a recording saying how much the ticket was. When I showed up for court there were over 400 other people there and the judge said that he was not going to hear anyone's case. I plead not guilty and was given a slip with 2 dates and they told me to come at either date.
I called the prosecutors office this morning to try to get a diversion and she told me to come at the 1st date because that was a pre-trial; new to me. At first I wanted to fight this but now I just want it to be over. The only thing is that I really wasn't speeding. I think a diversion is an admission of guilt also because you still pay the ticket. Do officers often show up to the court dates? Should I go on and fight? If I lose then I will have to pay the ticket+court costs+plus a higher insurance premium. I have a clean driving record. I had been driving the same road at the same speed, 70, for almost 2 years previously and had never gotten pulled over. The speed limit is 70.

Thanks,
humbleman

Also it strikes me about the policeman's comments.
He says you were doing 79 and yet only have EVIDENCE for the 72mph transgression.

What does the ticket say?

I am in Indiana. The ticket says 79 in a 70 mph zone. He told me his radar showed 72 after he gave me the ticket.
