Hi,

I got a situation I need advice so that I can file a tax.

1) I have ONE w2 and No other source of income in US.
2) I came in US for first time 10-Dec-2008, and I am on H1-B visa
3) I have been in the US since then.
4) I am in Illinois state.
5) I am single and never married.
6) My w2 income is 3494 = wages = soc sec = med care
7) fed what = 525.49
8) soc sec tax = 216.63
9) medicare tax = 50.66
10) IL state Income Tax = 104.82
10) All through the year 2008, I had non-US income. However my bank account never exceeded 10,000$ in 2008.

Q1) What would be my filing status?

Q2) What would be the refund in each of the different filing statuses?

Q3) Other than W2 form should I submit any other forms?

Q4) Can I my soc sec tax & medic care tax refunded? If yes how?

Q5)With these figures, Turbotax shows me a federal tax refund of $825 and a state refund of $60. Is this appropriate?

Please guide me in this regard and give me the figures in each case so that I can decide what to do.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks a ton.

File nonresident tax form 1040NR-EZ. You will get exemption of $3400 and itemized deduction of state income tax. So you will have nil taxable income. You will get back all the federal tax withheld.
