Hello,
My electric furnace heats just fine, but when it shuts of I heard a clicking sound coming from the breaker switches connected to the furnace. Also, I turned the unit off by the thermostat and had it off for awhile but heat was still coming from the unit. The breakers were still on when I turned the thermostat off. To test the unit I shut the breakers off and the heat when away and no more clicking sounds. I waited about 20 minutes enough for the unit to cool down, then turned the breakers on from the furnace and left the off and once again the clicking sound started again and the furnace started to heat up again. Should I be concerned? It almost seems like an electrical problem within the breakers because the clicking sounds as if it is in that general area. Blower is on top of the unit.

Any help please respond
Thanks philc78

You might have a defective heat sequencer or a relay in the heating unit. If you turned the thermostat off and after a minute or two the unit was still producing heat then I would get it looked at.

Thanks, hey I got up this morning after shutting the unit off over night by the breaker box connected to the furnace and l got up this morning and turned it back on and its been on and no problems so far. Does this sound odd if it is the heat sequencer or relay?

Also should I leave the heat off if it does it again till I get it looked at due to being concerned about a fire or should it be OK to use it till checked out or breaker kicks, not doing it now but still concerned?

Yes it does a bit but something caused the problem.

also should I leave the heat off if it does it again till I get it looked at due to being concerned about a fire or should it be ok to use it till checked out or breaker kicks, not doing it now but still concerned?

If it makes you feel safer turn it off when not in use.

Well thank u very much hvac1000 that is exactly what I have been doing. Shutting it off by the breaker switch and listening to it to see if it does it again. Its great to know you are here to help people online and this puts me at ease knowing what u have told me. Hopefully I can pass the favor forward one day.

Thank philc78
