These 107 degree days took a toll on my truck's a/c compressor, got too hot and blew off the freon cap. I took the truck to a mechanic who quoted $600 to $1,000 to replace the compressor. I could see the damage to the compressor. I can buy a re-built compressor for $175 with a year warranty.

In this model F150 the compressor sits right on top and in the front of engine. Looks easy to get to. My wife is mechanically inclined and says we can do this ourselves. There's not much she can't figure out how to do. But she does say, if we had a schematic of the compressor and belt placement, we would have a easier venture.

So, I'm looking for anyone who has replaced a 1995 F150 compressor and could give us some insight in this subject.

You should be able to get the diagram from a Haynes manual you can buy at
An auto parts store for about $15 if no one here can help you.
The replacement of the compressor should not be a hard job to do but
Be aware when hooking the hoses back up to the new compressor to use the
Special seals that are required.
If you do not have the knowledge or equipment and gauges to recharge the
System you can have the truck towed to a shop where they would only
Charge to do the recharge, in any case you would save a lot of $ and could
Probably do it for no more than $500.

If you decide to do it yourself, be sure to also replace the receiver/dryer and the orifice tube, because they have trapped crud from the bad compressor. If your vehicle has the new style quick connect AC lines, you will need to buy a Lisle AC/Fuel Line Disconnect Kit (part#37000) for about $10. If you or a friend have a membership to Sam's Club, they are unloading their stock of R-134a freon @ $37.62 for a case of 12 cans. This is much cheaper than the $8-$12 per can from an auto parts store. Also be sure to follow directions for the proper amount of PAG oil in the system. Good luck.
