My condo flooded while I was away. I was told it was the solenoid stuck on the washing machine? Before I left for my trip, I turned off the water behind the washer. Is this unusual?
Thanks

Did you turn off both hot & cold water supplies to the washer? If so, then there was no water entering the device. A "stuck solenoid" on the washer could not have caused the flooding.

This seems very wierd;

The on/off valves that you turned off may not have been working, but that is an easy check.

Usually, the hose bursts and leaks.

The solenoid sticking is probably the wrong terminology, unless there was a power surge and there was a solid state device that turns on the valve and that surge caused it to turn on.

A plausible explanation would be:
1. The manual shutoffs failed and...
2. The sping used to keep the valve within the washer broke.
