I really don't know where to start!

I want to quit my job, but I feel guilty every day, knowing that I will be letting my manager down and the company as they will need to find someone in a month to replace me and train them up just like they did for me six months ago!

But I know that this is not for me! I don't enjoy it and I have to drive an hour and a bit every morning and evening and I feel that my evenings are lost because I fear that I will wake up late and not get to work on time!

I also want to travel this summer. I had to compromise with my parents which was to apply for my teaching degree and they would let me go travelling.

Im not sure if teaching is for me and preferably I don't really want to return after my travels!

I am so confused as to how and when to quit my job, and how guilty I feel. I do go to sleep feeling apprehensive and nervous. Actually I have flitters of nervousness every day and when I'm driving home I always feel like crying!

Has anyone else been in this position? I need help and advice on this!

Your life seems to be a little mixed up at present.
Have you heard of THE TO DO LIST.
You cannot do everything on the list to-day.
It sometimes is good to plan ahead for at least
5 to 10 years.
If INDIA can forecast its 5 year plan,
Surely you can try and forecast yours.

Make a compehensive list of what you want to do.
Study it in depth and then put a chronological
Classification to it.
Once agreed on what you want,
Plan and go forward in achieving it.

Good luck.

I would think many people have been in a similar position. Sometimes it truly is not a good fit job wise, sometimes it is merely the grass seems greener somewhere else.

Personally, unless you have a good deal of money saved, I wouldn't quit until you had something else lined up. It is certainly admirable that you are concerned about the company having to train someone else, but you shouldn't stay in a position out of guilt. You can, however, leave on decent terms, which will only benefit you in seeking future employment. If possible, offer to help train the new person that would be coming in.

Do you know what you would like to do? If you don't go into teaching, and I highly recommend you don't if you really don't have a strong desire to do so, what other degree would better suit what you want to do?
It can be difficult, I know, because there are so many choices that can sound interesting.

Where are you located? In some situations you can just focus on general education classes at the start of university and determine a major at a later time when you have had more time to decide what direction you would like to pursue.

I was in a job that did not fit me well for ten years...
They are going through lots of changes and I had a choice to leave early and severe my ties and I took the opportunity to do that. Now I have a chance to go to school and upgrade and find a completely new job.

So, I hope you realize that yes you might be nervous and might be wondering what is the right time to leave. You need to have quiet time to yourself and think of what are all the positives and negatives of each situation. Staying or going?

If you do quit. Always give ample notice and before you do anything I would suggest also get some work references if possible.

As far as letting the manager down or the company. You need to make a decision that is best for your life and your career not your boss.
