Honeywell mercury thermostat has no wiring labels cooling has 1- blue 1- red 2- yellow heating has 2-yellow 2- white 1- red. Trying to install hunter digital 44860

1st is this a furnace if it is open the wiring panel and read the terminal strip; red is r ( one side of 24v) white is w(heat) c is common other side of 24v(not needed on tstat if batteries are used) Y is yellow (this wire goes from the tstat to the cond usually through the furnace or a/h and the c from furnace goes to cond outside to one side of contactor y on other side oc contactor.
