Hello-

The situation: I am starting a DIY bathroom remodeling that involves only one major transition- moving the toilet approximately 5ft. I have very reasonable access to the plumbing via the basement, and further the toilet continues in the same linear line as its current drain pipe. I am most concerned about the drain, not the refill.

By reading many other posts, I believe my steps would be to:
1) Saw off old CI drain (sawzall)
2) Attach old CI to PVC (shield clamp)
3) Run PVC to toilet flange (minimum 1/4” to 12” slope)

My questions are these:

1) Does my plan seem to have any flaws?
2) Where do I cut the CI and is there enough room? (see images)

I think my images shrunk. Hopefully you can zoom in to get a good luck.

Any chance you can post another pic. Of the elbow fitting from the side so I can see how much room there is? You are cutting it close for a shielded clamp at the pipe just after the sanitary tee fitting.

We are in the process of buying the house and will close in a couple of weeks- so I can't take anymore pictures. I do however have another pic that show a little more of the side of the elbow. In the picture you can see where the discoloration starts and that basically is where it turns up.

It's not the best view for you, but maybe you can use all three pics to get an idea. If not, no worries, I'll take some better pics in a couple of weeks.

Cut at #3. Cut should leave some of the 3" pipe so you can attach No-Hub coupling to it.

You can try cutting at #3 as Milo has suggested. Otherwise, see if you can measure how long that elbow is coming out of the hub BEFORE it begins to turn into 90 degree bend?

I am just thinking that the pipe at #3 is flared out slightly... so would be better if can get a cut on a longer pipe... such as the elbow coming out of that hub..
