I have noticed our tumble dryer almost 'struggle' to run over the last couple of days. A couple of times it has just stopped running. The most recent event this evening was that it just stopped running. I had it on Warm only and when I opened the door, it was like a sauna in there! AFter a period (and I removed half the load), the dryer started back up again, but it barely rotates. It sounds 'tired'. Could the motor have burnt out?
We really can't afford to buy a new one! It's a Simpson Sirocco 500 auto-reverse (7-8 yrs old). I have lots of damp washing to dry!

You might want to take the unit apart and clean up all the lint especially around the motor. I use a air compressor on mine once a year on the motor only to blow all the lint out. Lint acts as a insulator causing the motor winding to get hot and shut off. If that does not cure the problem them a new motor might be necessary. Also check all the roller/bearing surfaces to be sure the drum can turn easily. If not this can put a extra load on the motor and also cause the problem.

Thanks, have done all the above and cleaned A lot of gunk from the rear etc. The drive belt was barely on too - so after putting it back on properly, the dryer is purring!! Thanks very much!
