A nephew has a warrant out for his arrest. He did not show up in court. His dad posted a $5,000 surety bond. I guess my question is : How long of a wait is there, do they look for you or wait for you to mess up again. What happens to the dad and the bond?

Depends on the type of charge it is.

If it is murder or something, they will probably be actively searching for him.

If it is for something small, perhaps a dug possession charge, they won't actively search for him, but a bounty hunter might, in order to get paid.

Have you considered having your nephew turn himself in to the court? This way he takes care of his mistake like an adult, he won't have to panic every time he sees a police officer, and he'll lesson the worry and stress on family members. Everyone makes mistakes, but it will look better to a judge that he was responsible enough to turn himself in, rather than get caught and booked by police. Good luck to you.

If the person does not turn hisself in soon, the dad will lose his money or if he merely promiced to pay on a bond, he will have to pay the court the money very shortly.

Most likely they will just leave the warrant out there and wait for him to be stopped or found for something else. In smaller towns they most likely will go out and get them.

If the bond was though a bail bondsmen, then a bounty hunter will be after him shortly.

A warrant will stay active forever, so he will get caught sooner or latter.

Best thng he can do, contact his attorney and work out to turn hisself in.

Yes, as Father Chuck has said, turning himself in under the counsel of a lawyer is probably his best bet.

His best bet would turn himself in. The sheriff's departments have their newest employees in our area work a big part of their day serving warrants. They don't leave them laying inactive.

Warrants do have a time limit... it depends on the crime committed... if murder for life for example... bonds are not always returned... bonds returns are dependent on the state... so what state...

hmm. This is just a random question, but now I am interested lol. Does a warrant or even a bench warrant ever expire?
