My dog has been very lethargic and even week the last two days and has loose stools and sometimes mucous-like stools. He has a poor appetite, but it's not completely gone. He is an 11 year old Beagle/Lab mix. He is up to date on everything and had his heartguard tablet on the 1st. He eats a dry food diet am and pm (Diamond Naturals Dog Food). Any ideas what could be wrong? I'm very worried about him. :( Also, unfortunately the vets are closed today and tomorrow --- so if there is anything I can do for him until Monday it would be good :(

He could have hookworms. They usually make mucous in the stools and make the animal lethargic as well.

Heartgard is for heartworms.

He'll be okay until Monday, but do take him as soon as you can. Hookworms are easy to get rid of and he'll be okay in a day or so once he gets the proper meds from the vet in his system.

Ok, never mind, he has NO appetite -- not for cheese, turkey, rice -- nothing.

Can you check around for an emergency clinic? This would not worry me as much if he weren't an old dog. Dehydration is more of an immediate concern than no appetite. Can you get him to drink anything? See if he will lick ice cubes, popsicles, or pedialyte pops. You can try placing a little liquid in his mouth with a syringe or turkey baster. If he will swallow, repeat very small amounts frequently. If he vomits, stop trying to give him anything by mouth.

Hi there, I actually posted a new update post about what's happening now. I took his temperature shortly after posting this and it was 106.4!! He is at the Emerg. Vet now.. . Please read my newest post; it's full of questions with no answers :( . I'm so worried about him.
