Unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree with your translation. What your saying is my friend is playing around at work [your literally saying he is playing around, i.e. objects, furniture etc.]

juagando al redelor , which is literally saying paying around [like around objects and things].

Besides you can say other words like:

Mi amigo/amiga estaba neciando en el trabajo

OR

Mi amigo/amiga estaba de loco/loca en el trabajo
