Why can't some people take criticisms?
Seriously, but only when it's constructive criticism. I have a friend, and she wants to become a cartoonist or either an artist, anything to do with what she loves. But... whenever she shows me her drawings, I give her compliments... yet, she needs to IMPROVE a lot. Every time I tell her how, and what she needs to improve on, she just goes "Hey, nothing is perfect." Yeah I do know that for a fact!
In the art industry or whatever it is... career... jobs, blah, Anyway, I'm really starting to get tired and annoyed with helping her in the first place. She doesn't even show her art to anyone else unless she thinks she's going to get compliments. Other than that she hisses like an animal whenever someone asks to view her art. Of course art is something meant to be shown and displayed to others... yet she just doesn't get it. We've both been friends for over 3 years, I don't want it to end just because of her misunderstanding me trying to help her.

I am a graphic artist and often when I show my work to my BF he will say ,you should have done this or that ,not technical advice but actually changing my artists concept. No artist wants that .Its our baby,we created what we wanted.
If you are giving technical advice, she should be happy as that will improve her art.
She should display her art on renderosity.com
Sign in as a beginner and the fellow artists there will give her advice. They will critique her work and tell her where she needs to improve.

Well, maybe your friend just wants to show you the work she has done - it does not mean she is asking you for "help". When and if she needs help, she will ask you. In the meantime, just enjoy what she shows you - don't try to fix it for her. Instead of pointing out what is wrong - how about, "You love art, have you thought about going to art school? You would love it." And leave it at that.

You also need to tell her *either you want my opinion or not*and that is the bottom line.Your friends and I bet you that she has taken some of your advice, provided you are an artist as well.

Yeah, I guess so. Then again, she's always telling me she wants to improve, yet.. sooner or later if she doesn't realize if she can't take all these criticisms, (of course I also give her plenty of compliments) sooner or later she'll shut herself entirely away from what she loves to do.

I am, well, I'm working on towards being either a mangaka, graphic designer, fashion designer or anything to do with what I love, still confused and trying to decide though. I'm just really getting fed up with trying to help her, and her just saying "Nothing is perfect, jeez" or even claiming I'm a perfectionist (which I can tell you for a fact, I'm the total opposite). Since I've never received any help from friends or family, and it made me feel more lonely and lost inside.
