Well, I'm not sure this is the right place to ask this but I'm just new here and want to know something.

I'm a catholic but not religious type of person. I actually occasionally go to church and hardly not praying too much. But if you're a religious type of person, is it necessary to wear the rosary everyday? Well, I've been seeing some people wearing them (aside from nuns and priests) and the only thing that I can think of is that they might be religious or some sort. What is the significant of wearing them?

When you say "wearing a rosary," what do you mean? Slung around necks like necklaces? Something else?

No, it isn't necessary to wear a rosary. And it is regarded by many as disrespectful to wear a rosary as an accessory--a trend that began with Madonna in the 80's.

As a non Catholic, I've always wondered what a rosary actually is and why it is used. Can someone help me please?

They are prayer beads - I like this site: What is a Rosary? (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-rosary.htm)
