I am looking for my birthfather. My birth mother (who never told him about her pregnancy with me nor the subsequent relinquishment of me to be adopted ) tells me that his name is Frank Washam. He was born around 1940-41 possibly in Florida. He was a union leader in a factory in the Charlotte, NC area off Central Avenue. In 1964 he was about 23 years old and was in a relationship with a lady name Deloris (Betty). I have searched and searched to no avail. It is very frustrating because I know that the social workers in the county where I was born have the information about who he is, but guess what? They tell me HE has to give his permission in order for them to release his information. HA! They sure didn't need his permission to give me up for adoption, although everyone in the room knew that my birth mother's husband was NOT my father. I think he has a right to know about me. I am now 44 years old and need nothing more than some closure and some knowledge of my family tree that I can share with my kids and future generations. I located a Frank Washam in Gastonia, but he is too young (I think he was born in 1946). There is also a Frank Washam in Cornelius, NC who would be about 100 (and he is too old). Most recently I wrote to a Frank Washam in Seattle, WA who would be about the right age, but the letter came back "not at this address". There are a couple of Franks in Alabama who also have resulted in dead ends. Please help me! I really, really would like to know who he is. I don't need anything from him, just to say hello.
