Hello normierich

Most probably you have to replace the starter (or the tube light itself).
Try the starter first. Success.

What's a starter?

What's a starter?

It's a little round grey thing a little smaller than a C battery. Normally located behind the light tube. If you find your light doesn't have a starter, then the ballast could be going out. But I'd try a new bulb first, if that don't work, replace the balast. All these parts should be available at fine hardware stores in your area.

Hello andrewc24301

Replacing the starter is one thing. Replacing the tube light is another thing. But in these times of trying to reduce our energy use it would be better not to replace the ballast but to replace the entire fluorescent light fitting with an electronic one.
No more starter, no more ballast, a thinner tube light, and even more light for a lower electricity consumption, and easy to install - even for the non-technical person. :)

That could work too!

Question for normierich

Did you get my replies?
Have you found that starter and replaced it?
Did the 'flicker' stop now?
