A Friend in need.

I can't find a Psychiatrist that I can afford ,I am not indugent but not working much either , my regular doctor won't try any more meds for the ADHD ,he tried 3 but says I need to find a Psychiatrist to prescribe more . I am so frustrated looking for a Psychiatrist I can afford. If you are dirt poor there is help but nothing for working people with no insurance.I just recently realized I need some kind of meds to get by in the world as an ADHD 49year old adult.Unless I am wanting to kill someone or myself there seems to be no help.

Have you tried a local university? Many psych programs at universities provide low or no cost therapy as well as meds.

What about the county human services department? They offer psychiatric services and meds at low cost based on your situation. Go to the library and talk with a reference librarian. Tell him/her what you are looking for. There may also be township programs, help through Catholic Charities or Lutheran Social Services, or some other agency. Keep us informed about what you find.
