I just bought a yamaha 61 key keyboard. I bought a piano book and it states that the if you set in the middle you should be in front of middle c. That it should be directly under the manufactures name. Not so on my keyboard. If I set in the middle there is a c equally spaced to the left and right of the middle? Not in the middle.

Hi, spoonyluv!
The piano book that you have is probably describing where middle "C" would be on a full-size acoustic piano. The location of middle "C" will vary on electronic keyboards or pianos.
The answer by Stratmando should be helpful to you. Also, here is a link to a virtual keyboard where middle "C" is actually the lowest not on the keyboard.

If you need any help with figuring out how to play music, or would maybe like to write a song that you can actually play, please let me know. I would love to help you!
Thanks!
