I am not a big reader, but want to read more. When I find a book I like I really get into it. I recently read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I loved it. I bought another of his novels, Blood Meridian. Good story idea, but very hard to read. Can't get into it. I also read, and enjoyed, Into the Wild, DaVinci Code, and book about an undercover ATF agent who infiltrated a California biker gang. I'm all over the place.

Can anyone recommend some book titles that I should look into that might fall more in line of The Road. I looked at "what others bought" on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and they all recommend other McCarthy books. Not thrilled about that, and hoping to look to other authors people like.

Thank you.

I'd suggest looking for the books that you have read on amazon.com. The page for your book will also have a section titled something like: "Customers who bought this book also bought..." You can look up some of those titles as well. A friend of mine who was a manager at a book store that I "lived in" a few years ago, told me that she always read the first page, and it it didn't grab her, she put the book back. No me being particular, I'd recommend anything by John Berendt, like "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." or his other book, "City of Falling Angels". Both are true crime stories, but with a colorful atmosphere. ( I was living in Georgia during the Jim Williams Trial.) Or, just go to your favorite chain bookstore, order a coffee and sit at a desk with a pile of books and start reading them.
