I have a 90 honda civic DX and my passenger side axle broke. I went and bought a new one but it doesn't fit. Auto zone has given me 5 different axles and none of them have worked. 3 of the 5 went in all the way, but the ends were too small, the other 2 would stick out of the transmission about a 1/4 inch. All I want to know is if there is something I can do to make it fit without breaking it.

My mechanic replaced the half shaft for $47.50 if I gave him the part. Maybe try your mechanic.
